Quick Summary

Compact standalone MIDI distributor with 1x MIDI In and 12x MIDI Thru for lossless distribution of one MIDI stream to multiple devices.

Product Description

Kenton MIDI Thru 12 is a specialized MIDI routing box for the distribution of one MIDI input into twelve parallel outputs. Suitable for clock distribution, multi-synthesizer control from one sequencer or keyboard and transmission of all common MIDI data including Clock, SysEx and MTC.

Features and functions

  • 1x DIN MIDI In / 12x DIN MIDI Thru
  • Processing of all common MIDI data including Clock, SysEx and MTC
  • Opto-isolated MIDI In and stand-alone driver for each MIDI Thru output
  • Schmitt trigger logic for restoring signal quality
  • Lats of less than 1 microsecond
  • Standalone operation without computer
  • Suitable for clock distribution and parallel control of multiple MIDI devices
  • Compact desktop dimensions 162 x 54 x 35 mm
  • 2.1 mm DC power connector, center positive
  • Power / Data indicator light
  • Metal chassis with brushed aluminium surface
  • Supplied with 9V multi-region switched power supply

Controls

FRONT / TOP (user control)

  • No configuration elements; transparent MIDI thru distribution
  • Power / Data indicator light

Service / hidden elements

  • Verify the label of a specific adapter and confirm real consumption when operating.
  • Test MIDI clock / SysEx distribution over multiple parallel outputs.
  • Local HW _ PIC and PDF manual are already connected; when the next service, complete any detailed close-up-ups of connectors.

Typical routing

  • Master clock distributor: One central sequencer or DAW clock source controls multiple synths in parallel.
    • Connect the MIDI Out from master device to MIDI In on the Kenton MIDI Thru 12
    • Divert individual MIDI Thru outputs into target synths / drum machine
    • Set separate MIDI channels on target devices as needed
  • One keyboard, multiple one modules: The keyboard or master keyboard controls multiple rack or desktop MIDI modules simultaneously.
    • MIDI Out of the keyboard lead to the Kenton MIDI Thru 12
    • MIDI Thru outputs split into individual modules
    • Set up adequate receiver channels or multi- dialling on modules
Connection instructions: The examples below show typical signal flows in practice. For specific details (jitter, buffering), see section above.

Notes / service / modifications

  • The device is suitable as a central MIDI thru hub instead of a chain through THRU ports of individual synthesizers.
  • Official Kenton base indicates opto- isolated input, separate driver for each MIDI Thru output and latency under 1 microsecond.
  • Local HW _ PIC set and PDF manual are included.
