BOINC Manager QT

0.1.6.8

custom BOINC Manager for managing BOINC projects. RPC parity with original manager.

What the project solves

custom BOINC Manager for managing BOINC projects. RPC parity with original manager.

Typical use

  • Tail Insights Engine (row 2344) - project analysis
  • Per- session logging to logs / folder
  • Better error handling and user-face error messages

How the application works and what it is for

Overview and use-case

BOINC Manager QT is the own graphical interface RPC client for the BOINC daemony oriented parity approach: maintain virtually complete management of the ability known from the classical manager, but simultaneously expand the UI and analytics. The application targets two user types: (1) common BOINC operators who need daily monitoring of projects / tasks / transferees, and (2) advanced users who want configuration control (global / project prefs, cc _ config), historical analysis and team statistics.

The release 0.1.7.0 contains key areas: robust RPC client, asynchronous service layer with diff-optimization, non-modal analytical dialogues (Tail Insights, User Statistics / CNT), multi-host workflow and persistence of detailed runtime status. Part of this is also a fallback mode for reading data from for temporary unavailability of RPC endpoint.

  • Primary objective: manage the BOINC computing client via graphical interface RPC without losing operational functions.
  • Secondary objective: offer diagnostics and trend surveys beyond the minimum "click- and-watch" usage.
  • Third target: hold one single-file app with a clear internal layer of responsibility.

UI workflow

7.1 Menu and toolbar

Top menu includes Tools, Languages, Themes, Help. The toolbar is connected + activities + quick admin action. In addition to direct buttons, a drop menu is available for run / network / gpu activation modes.

7.3 Workflow map (step by step)

  1. Select the guest profile, check the host / port / auth and click Connect.
  2. After the connection is established, check Projects + Tasks + Transfers.
  3. Use the activities (computer / network / gpu) and project / task action when needed for intervention.
  4. Configuration changes are implemented via Global Prefs / Project Prefs / CC Config.
  5. Follow Notices / Messages for problems and recommendations.
  6. For analytics, open Tail Insights or User Statistics (CNT).
  7. Before stopping, verify that there are no binding risks of action (viz / reset / abortion).

User scenarios

10.1 Daily monitoring

  1. Connect to active guest profile.
  2. Check Projects / Tasks and possible error states.
  3. Watch Transfers and Messages for network / IO problems.
  4. In case of irregularities, use the notes + log + host info.

10.2 Unavailable RPC endpoint

  1. Turn on offline fallback path .
  2. Run a read- only audit of the state of projects and tasking.
  3. After the daemon is restored, switch to online RPC.

10.3 Tuning preferences

  1. In Global Prefs CPU / GPU / network policy modifications.
  2. Set low-level client option (carefully) in CC Config.
  3. Confirm changes and monitor impact in tasks / transfers.

10.4 Multi- host + CNT analytics

  1. Save multiple guest profiles over save host workflow.
  2. Switch between guests without restarting the app.
  3. Open User Statistics and analyze the rank / trend delta.
  4. Validuje timeline snapshot a core- normalized metrics.

FAQ

QuestionResponse
No connection to 31416. What's the first one?Check that daemon runs, guest / port fits and is available auth source.
When does offline fallback make sense? In case of a failure of RPC endpoint for read- only state audit.
Why doesn't the AI react immediately after the operation?Updates are controlled by polling intervals and diff model.
Is CNT integration mandatory? No. The basic RPC administration does not block.
Where to look for detailed errors?Tab Log + files in .
Is the configuration transferable?Yes, JSON config can be transferred between instances in a compatible environment.
Can you run more guests without restarting?Yes, via saved _ hosts quick switch workflow.

Troubleshooting

12.1 Connection and authentication

SymptomPossible causeSolution
Connection refuteddaemon not running / bad guest / portverified daemon, port 31416, firewall
Authentication failedinvalid password or cfg pathAuthentication or direct password

Not authorisedinconsistency of auth tokenconnect, re-read auth, check BOINC config

12.2 UI and performance

SymptomCauseSolution

12.3 Data and parseros

SymptomCauseSolution

Known limits

  • The monolithic structure of the file is robust for single distribution, but more demanding for modular maintenance.
  • Some RPC methods may depend on the version of the BOINC server.
  • CNT integration is best-effort (dependent on external source and page format).
  • Advanced graphic visualization is not a primary target; the application is data management oriented.
