How the application works and what it is for
Overview
Decimal Clock QT is a modern interpretation of the historical concept of revolutionary French time, converted into a highly customizable desktop widget. The application allows to monitor time in the decimal system (day divided into 10 hours) while maintaining the possibility of switching to a standard 24h or 12h cycle.
Three applications:
- Standalone application: Run straight from Python / exe, running like an independent window.
- FileMaster Module (FM _ DO): Automatically integrated in the FileMaster Suite, available in the side panel.
- Qt widget issuing: Insert as Qt component into your own application (programming input).
Primary purpose
Educative and aesthetic tool for tracking alternative time systems, with high adaptability through SVG skinning and digital overlay.
UI / Screenshots and visualization
Widget is designed for minimalism - it has no frames or upper bar (frameless design). All interaction is done through mouse and keyboard shortcuts.
Layout windows (Frameless):
Graphic variants (for FM _ DO): Includes X / Y background oscilloscope (under dial, cyclitically generated or from audio input) for advanced visualization.
Key Properties & Capabilities
4.1 Time-based schemes
- Decimal (10h / 100m / 100s): 1 day = 10 hours, 1 hour = 100 minutes, 1 minute = 100 seconds. Conversion: (seconds from midnight / 86400) × 10 = Designer hour.
- Classic 12-hour: Standard 12h format with AM / PM, analog display with 12 positions.
- Classic 24-hour: Modern 24h format, analog display (linear mapping 24h → 360 °).
4.2 SVG Skinning
- Dials: 20 + SVG variants (Minimal, Steampunk, Futuristic, Custom...)
- Hand sets: 10 + variants (Classic, Bold, Thin, Skeleton...)
- Dynamic combination: Dial × hands = 200 + possible combinations
- Per-dial configuration: with scale, offset, pivot points (FM _ DO specifics)
4.3 Digital overlay
- Optional number display in window corner (HH: MM: SS DecimalFormat)
- Position: upper-left (L- U), upper-right (R- U), lower-left (L- D), lower-right (R- D), off (Off)
- Configurable font, size (10-32px), color (# 75FF2F default), outline (1-5px thickness)
4.4 Oscilloscope X / Y overlay (FM _ DO specifics)
- Stretched rendering to QGraphicsScene (below digital, above dial)
- Generated signal test (sine / noise) or live audio input
- Switches: L / R swap, X / Y swap, dot / line mode, gain + / -, color
- Scaling by dial (common zoom with dial)
- Control in context menu + shortcut Ctrl + O
4.5 Independent scaling hands (FM _ DO feel)
- Parameter (0.2–3.0) + for dial
- Allows for example large dial (3.0 ×) + small hands (0.5 ×) for better readability
- Independent settings pivot _ x, pivot _ y, offset for each hand in skin.json
4.6 Interaction & Management
- Moving: Left mouse button (drag-to-move)
- Resize: Mouse wheel (zoom + / -), range 0.35 × to 3.0 ×
- Lock: Ctrl + L locks position and size (blocks mind events)
- Context menu (RMB): Selection of dial, hands set, time mode, overlay settings, lock / unlock, track
Workflow scenarios & practical cases
Scenario 1: Minimalist Desktop Widget
- Start the application (default settings)
- RMB > Skins > Dialso → "Minimum" (pure dial)
- RMB > Digital Display > Off (hide the number)
- Ctrl + L for blocking position
- Widget runs silent in the corner, no interference
Scenario 2: The teaching demonstration of tens of time
- RMB > Time Mode > Decimal (switch to desiccated system)
- RMB > Digital Display > Enable + Position: R-U (upper right corner)
- Cycle modes (Ctrl + T) and show differences
Scenario 3: FM _ DO integration module
- Run FileMaster (FM _ DO suite)
- Widget automatically inserts into the side panel
- Settings are synchronized with FM _ DO profile
Scenario 4: Qt embedding into your own application
- Import:
- Create instance and add to layout
- Widget will share styling with the host application
Use & control
After starting, a window with analog clock appears in the middle of the screen.
Basic operations
- Move: Left mouse button (drag)
- Resize: Mouse wheel (forward = zoom, backward = shrink)
- Menu: Right mouse button (RMB)
- Lock: Ctrl + L for position / size blocking
Switching modes
- Time Mode: Ctrl + T (Decimal → 12h → 24h)
- Digital time: Ctrl + D (cyclages position)
- Oscilloscope (FM _ DO): Ctrl + O (on / off)
Advanced functions & customization
11.1 Custom dial
Menu > Skins > Custom Dial... > File Picker. Supported: PNG, JPG, WebP. Widget automatically scalps.
11.2 Handless mode
Menu > Display > Show Hands: Off. Hiding the hands, only shows the dial.
11.3 Digital time with custom outfit
Menu > Digital Display Settings → Font, Size, Outline Width / Color, Text Color.
11.4 Sweep vs. Step seconds
Menu > Window > Sweep Seconds: On = smooth movement, Off = jump movement.
11.5 Opacity & Always- on-top
Menu > Window → Transparency check (15-100%) and keep-on-top flag.
Troubleshooting & Diagnostics
Problem: SVG dial does not appear
- Check: - Are there SVG?
- Copy from if missing
- Start for debug info
Problem: Digital Time shows strange
- Possible cause: Time zone - widget uses
- Solution: Ctrl + D for switching the position; if it is off, turn it on on on
Problem: Widget froze
- Possible cause: The window is locked ()
- Solution: Ctrl + L for unlock
FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Q: Can I run this application without FileMaster?
A: Yes, 100%. The application is fully functional standalone.
Q: How do I insert it into my own Qt application?
A: Import DecimalClockWidget class and create instance as QWidget. See Appendix E (Deployment).
Q: What is the difference between FM _ DO and the classic version?
A: Code is identical (unified 2026-0221). The difference is in the context of the depleyment. FM _ DO has an extra oscilloscope and independent hands scale.
Q: Where are the settings stored?
A: saved settings scope: (Linux / Mac) or Windows registers.
Q: Can I create my own dial?
A: Yes! Create SVG and place it in s .
