Media Scanner
0.1.01
Low-level media scanner for quick inventory and detection of file types.
What the project solves
Media Scanner is a low-level inventory layer for fast browsing media directories. From the paths and names it derives the structure of the library, collects technical metadata via FFprobe and can add additional content enrichment according to the mode.
How the application works and what it is for
Extended profile
Media Scanner is a low-level inventory layer for larger film and music libraries. Recurrent browsing through directory trees, interpreting names and paths and collecting technical metadata which can then be compared to the state stored in the database.
Scan modes
The Increase mode focuses on new or modified files, the Full Audit can compare checksums and Dirty Check searches for items outside the expected structure. This makes the same scanner for fast daily updates and for a more thorough check of library consistency.
FFprobe a enrichment
The technical data of the media is obtained via FFprobe; according to the mode additional content enrichment can be added, such as film metadata. Scanner is designed as a backend component, so the result can use database application or other tool instead of implementing a recursive scan of its own.
batch mode workflow
The project provides for quick / deep / full batch mode modes. This allows automation and batch runs without graphical interface and makes sense especially for large collections or server storage.
