What the project solves
Experimental MIDI tool for analyzing compositions, learning repetitive musical patterns and generating new sequences according to the acquired stylistic model.
How the application works and what it is for
Overview
Music Teacher connects the MIDI claviature with the interactive UI. The application generates music quizzes and evaluates user inputs in real time, monitors progress and identifies weaknesses in music education.
Extended profile
MusicTeacher is an experimental musical instrument that is not taught from audio, but from the structure of MIDI files. From existing tracks, it collects recurring music relationships and stores them in a database so that they can be used later in the generation of new sequences. The project links the teaching of musical structures, analysis of MIDI and algorithmic composition.
Teaching from MIDI
Learning workflow passes through MIDI files, parses notes, timing, channels and other music events and converts them into patterns suitable for statistical processing. Repeated passages can be subsequently consolidated, so the database does not represent one track but a gradually growing set of observed relationships.
Platters and composite engine
The well-taught structures can serve as a basis for generating new music outputs. The project provides for reproducible workflow - the same seed can create the same output - which is important when comparing algorithms and tuning composition. The generated material can be further opened in DAW and manually edited.
Data layer
The learned relationships and auxiliary data are stored in the SQL scheme. The database approach allows the long-term collection of musical knowledge from one application run and gives room for filtering, further analysis and repeated use of the model.
Practical Workflow
Typical cycle is: select a set of MIDI, run the learning multiple times, consolidate data, select parameters generation and create a MIDI output. It can be listened to separately or further processed in the sequencer. MusicTeacher is therefore both an analytical tool and a source of the patterns for other parts of its own MIDI ecosystem.
Integration with VMS
The project is designed to enable the music structures that have been taught or generated to be connected to Voynich MIDI Sequencer and other VMS components. MusicTeam deals with "what to learn from MIDI" in particular, while the sequencer provides detailed timing, editing and playback.
