Personal Archive Manager PS6

0.1.0.5aWindows / Linuxlocal data

Local desktop application for long-term guidance of a structured personal archive. It combines text records, documents, photos, sound and video with metadata, revisions, ties, timeline, portable offline export and automated batch mode.

Archive designed for long life

PAM keeps archived records, original media and their presentation separate so the collection remains usable for many years. Records stay linked to ordinary media files and can be published as a portable offline archive that remains readable without the application. The appearance and working process can be changed later without overwriting archived content.

Open Data Layer

SQLite, common files, JSON manifests and HTML export limit dependence on the only future graphical interface.

Separated media

The original file is not changed when imported; the size, circumference and label belong to the document layer.

Controlling copies

Archive snapshot creates ZIP and SHA-256 checksum for verification of transmission and backup.

Records, searches and connections

The data model distinguishes stories, memories, diary entries, observations, profiles and events of the timeline. The main window provides searching, filtering and management of metadata; links between records and chronological navigation allow you to track related persons, places, topics and events without duplicating content.

  • Full text search in text layer.
  • Tags, type of record, date and accuracy of dating.
  • Links between records and separate timeline.
  • History of revisions without overwriting the previous state.

Rich editor and work in multiple windows

A separate non-blocking editor can be opened next to the maintainer and simultaneously work with multiple records on multiple monitors. WYSIWYG layer supports headings, paragraphs, lists, quotes, colors, highlighting, alignment and hyperlines. In addition to the simple text, HTML and portable JSON snapshot document are stored.

Images and other media objects can be inserted between paragraphs, changing their presentation width, alignment and bypassing text. The layout adjustment does not change the original binary file.

Media and its metadata

Drag and drop import recognises photographs, audio, video and other documents and places them in the appropriate part of the archive. The application previews images, plays audio and video, and opens other documents in their associated application.

  • Name, MIME type, size and checksum.
  • Date of acquisition, title, label, location and source.
  • Copyright, notes, roles and order for the record.
  • The metadata are separated from the original medium.

Revision and securely separated PRIVATE vault

Each standard fit creates a new revision. The older state can be displayed and restored as another revision, so history does not erase. For sensitive content there is a separate vault with its own encrypted database and media. Sensitive records can be protected by strong encryption and an independent recovery key; the password itself is not stored.

The common part of the archive is not encrypted. PRIVATE is not automatically added to the readable HTML export and can be locked after inaction or minimization.

Offline publications and archival snapshot

HTML export compiles local index, separate log pages, timeline, CSS, copies of used media and manifesto. It retains basic rich formatting, links, dimensions and circumference of embedded objects. The result doesn't need Python or running PAM.

Snapshot includes database, media, manifests and encrypted vault to the ZIP package and creates the checksum of SHA-256. The encrypted part remains encrypted.
