Aphex Twin
Aphex Twin is a post-'The digital virtuosity: synthesis, sampling, algorithmic rhythms, glitch and psychoacoustic detail. Artifacts are not only a flaw, but a character - aesthetic decision.
Didactic is important to show how microtime and spectral jumps change the perception of pulse and form.
EP Analogue Bubblebath (1991) spojilo acidové sekvence, syrové rytmy a neobvyklé barvy. James se podílel i na založení Rephlex Records.
Warp Records a devadesátá léta
Selected Ambient Works 85–92 (1992) představilo melodickou a atmosférickou stránku jeho tvorby. Selected Ambient Works Volume II naopak pracuje s dlouhými plochami a často potlačuje beat. Další alba, například …I Care Because You Do a Richard D. James Album, propojují taneční energii s rychlými, nepravidelnými rytmy. Singly „Come to Daddy“ a „Windowlicker“ proslavily také provokativní videoklipy režiséra Chrise Cunninghama.
Od Drukqs k návratu
Drukqs (2001) střídá prudce stříhanou elektroniku s klavírními miniaturami. James později vydával sérii Analord jako AFX a nahrávky jako The Tuss. Roku 2014 se vrátil pod hlavním jménem albem Syro; následovala EP Cheetah a Collapse.
Zvuk a vliv

Aphex Twin representations a post-digital virtuosity build from synthesis, sampling, algorithmic rhythms, glitch and psychoacoustic detail. Articles are not merely defects; they become signs and liberate aesthetic choices.
A used listening error is to notice how microforming and even specific changes reflect the perception of pulse and form
Beginnings in Cornwall
Richard David James was born in Limerick, Ireland, in 1971 and grew up in Cornwall. As a teenager he became a DJ and began making electronic music, treating sound itself as material for experimentation. He explored keyboards, sequencers and modified equipment, and played at clubs and rave parties in south-west England in the late 1980s. The 1991 EP Analogue Bubblebath combined acid sequences, rough rhythms and unusual timbres. James also helped found Rephlex Records.
Warp Records and the 1990s
Selected Ambient Works 85–92 (1992) introduced the melodic and atmospheric side of his music. Selected Ambient Works Volume II instead uses long sound fields and often removes an obvious beat. Later albums such as …I Care Because You Do and Richard D. James Album connect dance energy with fast, irregular rhythms. “Come to Daddy” and “Windowlicker” also became known through provocative videos directed by Chris Cunningham.
From Drukqs to the return
Drukqs (2001) alternates sharply edited electronics with piano miniatures. James later released the Analord series as AFX and records as the Tuss. In 2014 he returned as Aphex Twin with Syro, followed by the EPs Cheetah and Collapse.
Sound and influence
His music ranges from ambient and acid techno to jungle and drill’n’bass. Aliases such as AFX, Polygon Window, the Tuss and Caustic Window signal different approaches rather than fixed genre boundaries. Aphex Twin is often associated with IDM, a label James treats with distance. His influence is heard in electronic production’s attention to detail, unexpected rhythm, melodic fragments and idiosyncratic humour.
