Campaign and Level Design

Retro Runner is designed as a full-fledged singleplayer game, not as a short technological demo. The campaign contains 150 levels and combines precise movement on the logical grid with a smoother subvolume rendering. Levels work with obstacles, breakable bricks, traps, time pressure and enemies who are oriented on the map using BFS logic.

The game is a level editor. The same runtime that the level plays also serves for its verification, so it is possible to modify the map, test the passageway and check the behavior of enemies or destructive elements immediately.

Progress, score and audio

Campaign procedure, local score and TOP100 leaderboard are stored locally; the game does not require an online account. The audio is divided into music, sound effects and MIDI branch to enable the individual components to be managed independently. The interface supports CZ / EN and maintains retro character without dependence on the original eight-bit hardware.

Role in the game development branch

Retro Runner is one of the foundations of experience with self-level self-shock, persistence, simple AI and retro presentations. These principles are later reflected in a more versatile game core and other titles.
